Family-style Restaurants to Visit in the Smoky Mountains

November 6, 2020 By Summer Orr

Any good southern, family vacation includes comfort food and lots of it. We may be partial, but to us, the communities surrounding Hidden Mountain Resort offer some of the tastiest, country-cooked dishes you can find! So today, we are going to share a few local dining options we think your tastebuds will love! Grab a napkin, and let’s dig in!

Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant

The first mouthwatering stop on our journey is Sevierville’s oldest eatery, the Applewood Farmhouse. This gorgeous restaurant is located less than one mile from Hidden Mountain and offers a wide selection of tasty, down-home southern favorites. Opened in 1986, Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant and its sister location Applewood Farmhouse Grill serve pancakes, omelets, chicken and dumplings, and smiles to over 1 million guests each year. We don’t think you’ll regret joining that number!

Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen

If the dishes of a famous chef served straight to your plate sound tempting, Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen is a must! Named for the world-renowned, southern cook, Paula Deen’s offers a truly unique, country dining experience. Every item on the menu comes straight from Paula’s cookbooks, and the food is enjoyed by passing dishes around the table in a setting reminiscent of family dinners of old. If you are looking to reconnect through good food and laughter, make sure to put Paula Deen’s on the itinerary.

Five Oaks Farm Kitchen

Carrying on the hospitality of the late Dr. John and Blanche Ogle, Five Oaks provides a warm, southern meal to any and all weary travelers that step inside. In this spirit, Five Oaks offers large, open dining rooms so visitors can enjoy a deeply communal meal experience. On top of incredible, in-house southern cooking, Five Oaks partners with Goodnight Brothers Country Ham to deliver salty, delectable country ham straight to your home. Even after you leave, you can still enjoy a little piece of Five Oaks wherever you are. Trust us, you will want to!

The Old Mill

Our final stop is The Old Mill. Originally opened as the Cornflour Restaurant in 1993, The Old Mill is a staple of Pigeon Forge. This sprawling restaurant serves everything from delectable pecan pie to savory fried chicken and is a southern cooking aficionado’s dream. In addition to delicious food, The Old Mill features a general store, The Farmhouse Kitchen stocked with recipes and mixes needed to create many of their signature dishes, Pigeon River Pottery, and Sassafras jewelry, apparel, and accessories. There is truly something for everyone at The Old Mill!

We are so happy you chose to stay with us and sincerely hope these recommendations lead to many good meals with those you love. If you are still planning your mountain getaway, we would love to see you at Hidden Mountain Resort. Give us a call or book online today!

Coffee Shops to Visit in the Smokies

November 6, 2020 By Summer Orr

In our opinion, every day should start with a delicious cup of coffee. Luckily, there are plenty of wonderful options where the magical liquid can be found near Hidden Mountain Resort, and today we are going to look at the ones we love the most! Cream and sugar? Let’s get started!

Coffee & Company

This European, cottage style coffee shop sits tucked among the 30 storefronts of the Village in Gatlinburg. The coffee here is roasted in-house, and you can even buy freshly roasted, single-serve coffee pods to brew once back home! With a wide variety of flavored coffee and tea options, this quaint shop is a “must-stop” while walking the famous Gatlinburg strip.

The Coffee Armory

Does a limited selection of boldly flavored coffees and espresso drinks pique your interest? If so, Coffee Armory is for you! Serving varieties of Black Rifle Coffee, the veteran-owned Coffee Armory is built for the hardcore, full-flavor coffee lover. Strong, delicious cups of joe crafted by and for American patriots!

Honeybee Coffee

Honeybee is new to Sevierville but a fixture in the East Tennessee coffee world and for good reason. The team at Honeybee sources their own beans, and roasts them to exacting standards, in-house. Featuring a dedicated crew and delicious coffee for passionate bean connoisseurs. Their lavender honey latte is already a local favorite.

We hope this blog helps you find the perfect cup of coffee during your stay at Hidden Mountain Resort! For those who haven’t booked with us yet, we are just a call away!

Best Drives for Viewing the Smokies in the Fall

October 1, 2020 By Summer Orr

It’s officially fall in the Smokies, and one of our favorite things about the season is the truly stunning scenic drives the area around our cabins has to offer. In this blog we share three popular treks for you and your family to enjoy this autumn! So, buckle up, and let’s get rolling!

Gatlinburg Bypass

We begin our journey with the Gatlinburg Bypass. This 3.6-mile drive is a short, but gorgeous trip that climbs in elevation to the Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook. Here, visitors can take in aerial views of the downtown portion of the city as it lays tucked among the reds, oranges, and yellows of majestic mountains in full fall swing.

Roaring Fork Motor Trail

If your vision of an ideal fall drive includes access to hikes, vintage cabins, and waterfalls, we suggest Roaring Fork. At just 5.5 miles, this one-way loop is packed with adventure! Whether it’s the walking Ogle Mountain Homestead tour, or the famous Place of a Thousand Drips falls, Roaring Fork has something to offer every traveler!

Foothills Parkway

The last and mostscenic drive on our list is the Foothills Parkway featuring breathtaking views of both the Smoky Mountains and the Tennessee Valley. Access the newest section of the Foothills Parkway, a 16-mile portion called the “Missing Link,” from Wears Valley Road and enjoy multiple overlooks seemingly created for selfies. We can’t think of a better photo op in the Smokies!

While these are just a few of the many gorgeous drives found in or near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, each provides a unique, day trip adventure. Give us a call or visit our website today to reserve a cozy, comfortable “home base” from which your mountain journeys can launch!

Fall Events in the Smoky Mountains

October 1, 2020 By Summer Orr

Even after all these years, we are still crazy about fall in the Smokies. While we could easily write about our love for the cooler weather and vibrant foliage, today, we are instead going to share some of the best seasonal events to check out while visiting the mountains! Get your jacket zipped up, your coffee in hand, and let’s take an outdoor, Appalachian journey together!

Robert Tino’s Smoky Mountain Homecoming (October 2nd-4th)

Located on the farm of famed local artist Robert Tino, this weekend festival is a truly immersive journey into mountain culture and craft. From blacksmithing and basket weaving to pinto beans and cornbread, mountain life and East Tennessee flare are on full display. For the full homecoming experience, don’t miss out on the old fashioned church service that takes place under the
oak trees on Sunday morning; you won’t regret it!

Wears Valley Fall Festival (October 16th-18th)

If BBQ, crafts, obstacle courses, and inflatables for the kids sound like your idea of outdoor fun, Wears Valley is for you. This three-day festival features craftsman, incredible food, and live entertainment ranging from Southern Gospel to Elvis. For good food, good music, and fun for the entire family, check out the Wears Valley Fall Festival!

Kyker Farms (September 26th-October 31st)

On the “fall experience checklist”, “visit corn maze” sits at the top of the list. Kyker Farms features five different mazes, but the fun doesn’t stop there. With hayrides, a pumpkin patch, live animals, and even a paintball adventure, there is something for the entire family to enjoy at this 9th generation farm. Load up the kids and take in everything Kyker Farms has to offer!

We hope you have enjoyed this quick look at some of the incredible outdoor events happening in the Smoky Mountains this fall. If we can help make your autumn trip to the mountains a reality, visit our website or give us a call today! Thanks for reading!
